Life Extreme
|
This is the amazing story
of how one teen faced involvement in gangs, drugs, firearms, violence and
more. He knows the fear, pain, hate and frustration
all too well, feeling like violence was his only solution. This story
details his trials, tribulations, and sorrows. It is
the shocking true story of a young man who made all
the wrong choices for all the wrong reasons.
Hutchinson reveals in his remarkable memoir
how he conquered hatred & survived. He now shares the hard lessons he has
learned with other teens to spare them from a life
filled with misery. Experience has been called
the only true teacher. If that is the case then
Hutchinson should have a Doctorate in Life! There is
not one area of the underbelly of America that he has
not been a part of. Teens will only listen to someone
who has gone through the struggles they are facing,
and lived to tell the tale!
He lived a dark life that one day lead to his
redemption. Hutchinson's journey eventually allowed
him to become a good man and co-founder of an
organization that has helped thousands in Africa. He
is also an expert on bullying and teen violence who
speaks to teens across America at schools, teen clubs,
etc. To date he is credited with preventing four Columbine-style school shootings, as well as stopping
over 50 teen suicides! He
is also an EMT credited
with saving two lives, and is father of the youngest
person in America ever to receive the 'Medal of
Valor'.
Hutchinson clearly shows what
he has today with his wife and children to be far more
valuable than any cheap thrill out on the street.

many is a resounding, "Yes!"

"My
daughter, Rachel Scott, was the first student murdered
at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. The book
'Life Extreme' by Tim Hutchinson is a book every
parent and student should read. It is the compelling,
dramatic story of a man who found his solution
through, not religion, but genuine personal faith.
This is what carried us through the pain we suffered
when Rachel was killed"

The
Big Lie Some Parents Tell Themselves
"Not my
child!" they insist. However
every year in America over 5,000
violent crimes are committed at high
schools: Crimes involving knives and
guns. Crimes such as Rape, Robbery,
and even Murder! The number of lesser
crimes being committed each year is
estimated at over 30,000 - and that's
just at high schools alone! Add in the
number of crimes committed away from
school and the total amount of teen
violence in this country is
staggering.
Many kids are
going through a 'Secret Hell'
and wish someone would recognize the
signs and reach out to them. With all
the negative influences in the world,
parents simply don't know if - or -
when their child will succumb to the
lure of the dark side of life. Parents
who tell themselves it won't, or can't
happen to their teens are only
deceiving themselves. The list of
parents with children in prison, or
dead, as a result of violent behavior,
and making poor decisions, is
absolutely HUGE! It can happen to any
family at any time; social and
economic family conditions often have
little to do with the risk their kids
are at.

"Of
all developed countries, the United
States has the worst lethal problem
and those at particularly high risk
are adolescents and young
adults."
--David Hemenway
Professor of
Health Policy / Director of Research
Harvard Youth Violence Prevention
Center
|
One only need look around at our
communities, and our country to know that
Professor Hemenway is absolutely right! Denial
only serves to make things worse. In one
particular case there was a family in Paducah,
KY who was in good standing in their
community, regularly attended church,
generally thought of as a caring & loving
family. One day a student went to the local
high school and shot 8 classmates, three of
whom died. Imagine this families shock when
they got the call telling them the perpetrator
was their son!

Why take
chances when help is so close?
|
Reading this book can be a real
turning point in a teens life! 'Life Extreme' is not only a book for teens that have
taken the wrong fork in the road. It is also
for teens still on the straight and narrow.
Any teen armed with the story of Hutchinson's
life will have plenty of good reasons to say
"No" when temptation rears its ugly
head.

"Today, I am older and wiser for having
lived through unthinkable experiences that no one
should have to live through. In 'Life
Extreme', I show the negative and positive
sides of my life. I wrote this book straight from the
heart, and clearly show how teens can get out of the
tangled web of hate and violence, and live a happy and
productive life. By showing teens what steps I took in
my life to turn things around, and achieve great
results that are still paying off, I'm certain this
book will make a profound difference in their
lives."

What Others Are Saying
|
"If I would have been able to
read this book beforehand, I probably wouldn´t have shot
those people. It would have helped me to learn from someone
who´s life was more screwed up than mine, and was able to
turn it around."
-- Charles Andrew Williams, currently serving a 50
year to life sentence in a California prison after he went on
a six- minute shooting spree on March 5, 2001, killing 2
students and wounding 11 others, including a teacher and a
campus monitor.
"Tim Hutchinson´s story is very
inspiring for me … I read this book as a concerned father
and also as a police officer currently working in a public
high school. In this book, Tim tells his story of being
bullied and the horrible life changing road that he was on in
his early years. The big difference in this story is that Tim
takes the next step and digs into the "why?" and
"how do we change the conditions?" for today's
youth. I have seen Tim in his interactions with people and I
believe he is an amazing person with an even more amazing
message that needs to be heard by everybody."
--Chris Goodreau, Police Officer - Burnsville, MN
"This is a great book, it helped
me learn that even if times are so unbelievably hard just to
hold on and that in the end it could turn out great. I have
never read a book with so much bravery and courage that the
author had. I couldn't put down this book almost the whole
time I was reading it! It helped me overcome some problems I
have in my life and made me want to just hold on to the hope
that I have left. I have a much more determined perspective in
life after reading ' Life Extreme'!
--Shadai Schwartz, Survivor, Columbine High School
"Great - easy to read and
captivating!! I was able to relate to many of your feelings as
you experienced them and expressed them. In my own life
journey of going to juvenile custody at age 8 - living on the
streets at age 10 - - gang banging - drug dealing - ending
with a 20 year drug addiction and 21 years in prison before I
was able to overcome and find redemption. Your book would have
helped me tremendously...in the Special Handing Unit in a
maximum security penitentiary - your words struck a cord in my
very soul!!"
--Serge LeClerc
Once called "The Most Dangerous Criminal in Canada"
by the Canadian Royal Mounted Police
"I must applaud Tim for his
courage to write this book. It was brutally honest and very
thought provoking. I am going to purchase a couple of these
books to share with fellow co-workers. Our agency's mission is
to help prevent violence. This book should help all of us.
Thank you to Tim for his help in breaking the chain of
violence. I am sure this book will help many teenagers in the
coming years."
--Sue Serley Community Action Counsel
"Having made some choices that
were not so productive, I found myself in prison - a direct
result of living life similar to what Hutchinson described -
trying to deal with the stigma for what I had done. I could
relate to virtually everything that the author had been
through ... Hutchinson not only tells his life story, he takes
you on an emotional roller coaster … and let[s] you know
that there is hope for those who have seen the
"bottom" in life. I could not put the book down once
I started reading it. If you want something that isn't full of
fluff, read this book because it is real life."

"Life Extreme is very highly
recommended reading for teachers and counselors - an excellent
source for identifying students likely to commit acts of
violence against fellow students."
--Sumant Pendharkar
Author of the award-winning book,
"Raising Yourself: Making The Right Choices"
"Having raised five children in
the Projects, I know a lot about the trouble teens can get
into. Now I have a bookshelf filled with some of the world's
best authors - Stephen King, Dean Koontz and others. 'Life
Extreme' discloses REAL LIFE situations, is easier reading and
more exciting than ANY of the others! ALL of my friends with
teen-aged children will know about this book."
--Linda H.

"This book is absolutely
riveting. I couldn't put it down. I plan on having my teenaged
grandchildren read it. I think it will make a difference in
the choices that they make in life."

"A MUST READ FOR ALL EDUCATORS!!! Hutchinson 's book
is a must read for all educators who work with middle and high
school teens. It was impossible to put down until the last
page was read. He shows a true life story of triumph over
tragedy. When asked why I am in education, my usual response
is to make the difference in a child's life. Imagine if we
could use this book in schools, especially with our 'at risk
kids'! How much more real life lessons can you ask for!! As a
society, this is what could rescue so many kids from a empty
life on the streets."

--Max Glupter

"Tim Hutchinson recognizes that
the home and family are in severe trouble today. It is by far
the most unbelievable book I have ever read which has impacted
my life beyond words. It is proof that one's personal faith
can bring you to the truth of who you are and out of the
depths of despair. He is a wonderful husband, and father not
only to his own, but to many thousands that have heard and
read what he has had to say throughout the country. It is a
MUST read for everyone regardless of your age.
--Ellen S. - British Royalty

"...from the first page, I was
mesmerized and found it very difficult to put it down. WOW!
That is the only word I can say for what you have been
through. The awesome thing is how you have turned your life
completely around and have helped so many people...thank you
for writing this wonderful book. Thanks for sharing your life
story and for trying to help young kids get their life on the

"I read it through the day after
it arrived, could hardly put it down. It is an amazing story.
A life that has been touched by grace. I live about 20 miles
from Columbine High School and was moved by the impulsion you
felt to be on the scene. Much good will come from your
book...a vehicle to touch hearts." Nancy Savage Golden,

I was not a teen trouble maker, just the opposite, but your
story helped me understand my dad. Haven't spoken with him in
many years but now I can be OK with that."

Excerpts
from “Life Extreme”
page
10: The last thing I remember was the warm trickle of blood as it flowed
from my mouth and nose. As the darkness grew deeper and the
pain more intense, I lost consciousness.
page
22: My hand was still on the knife and my left arm was pressing
down on his neck. I looked right into his eyes and twisted the
knife in his side.
page
30: I fell to my knees and looked up at him. He had a serious
look on his face and was holding a baseball bat. He then told
me that he wanted to join the gang Jerry was in. For his
initiation, he had to kill someone and that someone was me!
page
33: Then I walked away. I had preparations to make for
tomorrow's big event. Tomorrow I would kill all the jocks at
school.
page
64: I had earned a new nickname, 'Tornado Tim', because it seemed that
everywhere I went I left behind a trail of destruction. I had
no respect for others, or myself.
page
82: I thought about my son a lot. There were a number of
questions I'd like to know the answer to. Had I been a good
enough dad? If I had taken custody of him sooner would he
still be alive? Was his death partly my fault?
page 103: He knew now that his father, [Adolph] Hitler, in fact was
not god, but rather a very horrible person.
page 169: I knelt down in the mud [at
Columbine
High School
], not caring that my pants would be soiled. As I held my head
in my hands, I prayed. I cried.
page
181: Imagine that, my story getting told at the White House. Who
would've thought that would ever happen to a guy like me? Only
in
America
!
page
187: I then said the same thing I did to my own doctor earlier,
"Help me!" The nurse began speaking in a soft, calm
voice. I'm sorry, she said, according to your records you are
dying.
page
197: Writing this book has been a
journey for me that I’ll never forget. There were times that
remembering my past was so painful, that I stopped writing
completely.
Page
199: My
past no longer has a hold on me! The freedom from the pain in my
past is like nothing I've ever experienced before-very
liberating! Yet it also comes with a lot of personal
responsibility. No longer can I claim to be a 'victim', for I am
not. No, I am a self-liberated survivor of abuse, free to live
my life outside the bondages of emotional hell. I am a survivor
in every sense of the word-and darn proud of it!!
